In January 2015, Original9 Media began working with Chartboost to sharpen their content efforts and further engage developers with the brand. At the time, many game developers were aware of Chartboost’s advertising platform, but few engaged with the company beyond the product. In an industry overshadowed by a few big gaming companies, we created a content strategy to position Chartboost as an advocate and resource not only for the large companies, but also for the smaller, independent game developers.
Original9 created Playbook with content designed to help developers turn their passion for mobile game development into a livelihood, a business. We introduced more educational articles (e.g., real-world case studies, revenue strategies, indie game dev interviews) and recruited a network of gaming experts to contribute to the site. In addition, we revamped Chartboost’s monthly data-driven reports into quarterly themed “Power-Up Reports” that provided more insight in an improved format through data, visuals, and original editorial. Today, Playbook and the Power-Up Report are industry staples that not only inspire people to pursue mobile game development as a career, but actually help them make it happen.
